Albania is called the Europe’s last secret. And for good reason, since this country possesses the whole range of exciting natural objects – peaks of bedrocks and picturesque mountains, dense forest and wonderful beaches under the warm Mediterranean sun and sky-blue Adriatic waters. The coast is gorgeous and can easily compete with the other countries of the Mediterranean basin. Besides, Albania is a country of historical sights and beautiful architecture. Reminiscences of different cultures, religions and architecture styles, from the Ancient Greece to the Muslim minarets, live in a rare harmony here. All over the country hundreds of bunkers can be found. As if they were mushrooms, they cover the hills, the fields and even the streets of the towns. During the period of his rule, Enver Hoxha (the Albanian government leader) built 750,000 bunkers all over the country for fear of nuclear war.

The excursions sets off from Budva in direction of the town of Bar and heads up to the Albanian border on the mountain. The first town to visit is Shkoder is situated right by Lake Skadar, so here we go. Shkoder is one of the oldest cities in the south of Europe, founded back in the 4th century BC and showing very rich cultural and historical heritage.

Have a look at the impressive mosque of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Zamila Zamil and the Public Museum next to it where you may find a quite interesting collection of historical pictures and a very unique collection of the archeological evidences! Some time ago Sckoder played the role of the Albanian Catholic center but even now grand Franciscan church in Ruga Ndre-Mdzheda is considered the main Christian temple of the country. The old fortress of Rozaf overlooks town, and a very sad story about it is passed on from generation to generation. Below there is a multi-domed Lead Mosque, the only mosque in the town which was not destroyed during the cultural revolution in 60s. In town on Sckoder you will have some free time to have lunch and go for a walk.
